All frontend frameworks are converging ⚡
I spent the last couple of days exploring almost all popular frontend frameworks to pick one for a use case and I realized that most of them have either converged or are on the verge of having the same set of features.
The only thing differentiating one from the other is some syntactic sugar providing an additional convenience. If you leave that aside, almost all core features that 90% of people and applications care about are omnipresent. It was virtual dom in 2015 and it is compilers in 2024.
We see this pattern in databases as well. The databases that were proudly BASE are now ACID compliant and databases that promoted 3NF now provide JSON as a native type giving up on the practice of having atomic values.
Programming languages are no different, as all of them added a flavor of functional programming and async i/o after the rise of JavaScript, and now we see most of them supporting lightweight threads after Golang popularised it.
This pattern indicates that in today’s day and age, technology is not a moat anymore (barring a few extreme examples of course), and everyone is equally capable of building every other thing that exists.
